Description

Homemade spring rolls featuring a savory filling of ground meat and fresh vegetables, wrapped in delicate homemade pastry.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 140 grams (1 cup) flour
  • 240 milliliters (1 cup) water
  • A pinch of salt
  • 250 grams ground meat (beef, chicken, or tofu)
  • 100 grams carrots, finely chopped
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 100 grams cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • A pinch of sugar
  • Pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine flour, salt, and water. Whisk until smooth and fluid.
  2. Preheat a non-stick skillet over low heat. Brush the batter onto the skillet’s surface to form a thin layer. Cook for 30 seconds until the surface is dry.
  3. Remove with a spatula and keep on a towel-covered plate to avoid drying out.
  4. Heat olive oil in another skillet over medium heat. Add the ground meat and sauté for about 5 minutes until it’s browned.
  5. Introduce the carrots and cabbage into the skillet with the meat. Cook for a few more minutes before adding the green onions.
  6. Season the mixture with salt, sugar, pepper, and soy sauce. Cook for another few minutes, then take off the heat to cool.
  7. Take a piece of the pastry, place a spoonful of the filling in the center, and roll it up tightly, tucking in the edges as you go.
  8. Arrange the rolled spring rolls on a greased baking sheet. Brush each rolled pastry with olive oil.
  9. Bake them in a preheated oven at 250°C (482°F) for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Allow the meat to cool before filling the rolls to prevent the pastry from becoming soggy. Experiment with different vegetables for variety, and consider using rice flour for a gluten-free option.
