Description
A nostalgic dish combining juicy chicken with a vibrant orange sauce for a delightful family meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs chicken breast, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 0.25 tsp black pepper
- 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed)
- 0.5 cup soy sauce (low sodium)
- 0.5 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (mixed with 2 tablespoons water)
- 1 tsp ginger (grated)
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 1 tbsp orange zest (from 1 orange)
- 1 tbsp green onions (sliced, for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Coat the chicken pieces in the flour mixture, ensuring they are covered evenly.
- Carefully place the coated chicken pieces in the hot oil, frying in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per batch.
- Remove the chicken and let it drain on paper towels.
- In a separate saucepan, combine orange juice, soy sauce, sugar, ginger, garlic, and orange zest. Heat until the sugar dissolves.
- Mix cornstarch with water, then add to the sauce to thicken. Simmer until desired consistency.
- Toss the fried chicken pieces in the orange sauce until well-coated. Serve hot, garnished with green onions.
Notes
Use freshly squeezed orange juice for the best flavor. Avoid overcrowding the skillet when frying for crispy results.
