Delicious ham croquettes with a creamy filling and crispy exterior, perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups diced cooked ham
- 1 cup milk
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the flour, stirring constantly for about two minutes or until golden. Gradually whisk in the milk and continue to stir until thickened. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- Stir in the diced ham, mixing well. Allow the mixture to cool down before proceeding.
- Once cooled, shape the mixture into small logs or balls. Coat each piece in breadcrumbs, covering all sides evenly.
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the croquettes in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
- Remove the croquettes from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Notes
Experiment with flavors by adding cheese or vegetables to the filling. Freezing uncooked croquettes is an option for quick meals later.
