Description
A refreshing and creamy traditional beverage made from rice, cinnamon, and milk that evokes warmth and nostalgia.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of uncooked white rice
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 4 cups of hot water
- 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
- 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
- 3 cups of cold water
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar (optional, to taste)
Instructions
- Add the rice and hot water to a blender. Blend swiftly for about 30 seconds to break down the rice.
- Include the cinnamon sticks to the mixture and refrigerate for at least 2 to 3 hours.
- When ready, blend everything again until smooth, about 30 to 60 seconds.
- Strain the mixture through a triple layer of cheesecloth and a fine mesh strainer. Use a spatula or spoon to help pass the liquid.
- Stir in the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, cold water, and optional vanilla extract. Taste and add more sugar if needed.
- Refrigerate until ready to serve and pour into glasses filled with crushed ice. Enjoy the freshness.
Notes
Straining through cheesecloth is essential for a smooth texture; adjust sugar to personal taste.
