Description

A refreshing and creamy traditional beverage made from rice, cinnamon, and milk that evokes warmth and nostalgia.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of uncooked white rice
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cups of hot water
  • 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 cups of cold water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar (optional, to taste)

Instructions

  1. Add the rice and hot water to a blender. Blend swiftly for about 30 seconds to break down the rice.
  2. Include the cinnamon sticks to the mixture and refrigerate for at least 2 to 3 hours.
  3. When ready, blend everything again until smooth, about 30 to 60 seconds.
  4. Strain the mixture through a triple layer of cheesecloth and a fine mesh strainer. Use a spatula or spoon to help pass the liquid.
  5. Stir in the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, cold water, and optional vanilla extract. Taste and add more sugar if needed.
  6. Refrigerate until ready to serve and pour into glasses filled with crushed ice. Enjoy the freshness.

Notes

Straining through cheesecloth is essential for a smooth texture; adjust sugar to personal taste.
