- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add vanilla extract.
- Alternately add flour mixture (sifted with baking powder and salt) and milk, starting and ending with the flour.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool before frosting with the ganache.
- To make the ganache, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to boil, remove from heat, and add the chopped chocolate; let sit for a few minutes, then stir until smooth.
- If the ganache is too thick, add a little hot water until desired consistency is achieved. Spread over the cooled cake.
- Decorate with sugar paste as desired.
Notes
Ensure the cake is completely cool before applying ganache to prevent melting. Use high-quality chocolate for the ganache.
