Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add vanilla extract.
  4. Alternately add flour mixture (sifted with baking powder and salt) and milk, starting and ending with the flour.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let the cake cool before frosting with the ganache.
  7. To make the ganache, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to boil, remove from heat, and add the chopped chocolate; let sit for a few minutes, then stir until smooth.
  8. If the ganache is too thick, add a little hot water until desired consistency is achieved. Spread over the cooled cake.
  9. Decorate with sugar paste as desired.

Notes

Ensure the cake is completely cool before applying ganache to prevent melting. Use high-quality chocolate for the ganache.
