- 12 slices hearty white sandwich bread
- 16 1/4-inch-thick slices vine-ripened tomatoes (from about 3 (6-ounce) tomatoes)
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 3/4 cup mayonnaise (6 ounces; 170 g, divided)
- 8 romaine lettuce leaves (6 ounces; 170 g total, cut in half crosswise)
- 16 slices deli turkey (about 1 pound; 454 g total; preferably hickory smoked)
- 16 4-inch toothpicks
Instructions
- Cook the bacon in a skillet until crisp; drain on paper towels.
- Toast the sandwich bread slices until golden brown.
- Spread mayonnaise on one side of each toast slice.
- Layer lettuce, tomato, turkey, and bacon on one slice.
- Add another slice of toast, then repeat the layering.
- Top with the third slice of toast, mayo side down.
- Cut diagonally into halves or quarters.
- Secure with toothpicks for easy handling.
